The story behind Hotel Nordbo
A home in Nuuk – since 1998
Hotel Nordbo is the story of a local hotel in Nuuk, created with the desire to offer more than just an overnight stay. Since the beginning, the ambition has been to create a place where guests feel welcome, safe and at home – regardless of whether the stay lasts one night or several months.
Today, Hotel Nordbo consists of two locations in Nuuk, several different room and apartment types, restaurants, meeting facilities and a growing focus on gastronomy and guest experiences. But the basic idea is the same as from the beginning: personal service, quiet surroundings and presence in the middle of Greenland's capital.
The story began in 1998, when Allan Jensen and Leif Aagaard took over the property on Vandsøvej in Nuuk.
The building was originally constructed as rental housing, but was converted into independent hotel apartments with a focus on flexibility and a homely atmosphere.
Since then, Hotel Nordbo has grown continuously – always with respect for the guests' needs and the city's development.
As Nuuk grew, Hotel Nordbo grew with the city. New hotel apartments were added, existing facilities were modernized, and the desire to create a good environment for both business travelers, tourists and long-stay guests was strengthened.
In 2012, Nordbo took over new properties in the center of Nuuk, which after extensive renovation became part of the hotel universe. This was the beginning of what is today Hotel Nordbo City – a central hotel with both hotel rooms and apartments close to culture, restaurants, business and city life.
Over the years, Hotel Nordbo has developed from classic hotel apartments to a complete hospitality universe with a focus on experiences, gastronomy and flexible solutions.
In 2023, a major expansion was completed on Vandsøvej with new hotel apartments, reception, meeting and conference facilities and a breakfast restaurant. At the same time, the foundation was laid for an even greater focus on food experiences in Nuuk.
In 2026, Restaurant Aaveq will open - a gastronomic project with the ambition to create fine dining and taste experiences based on Greenland, local ingredients and presence.

Although Hotel Nordbo has evolved over the years, it is still the relationships, hospitality and feeling of home that drive us.
We believe that a hotel in Nuuk should be more than a place to sleep. It should be a place where you feel comfortable. A place with space for everyday life, experiences and people.
Important years in Nordbo's history
1998
Allan Jensen and Leif Aagaard buy the property at Vandsøvej and converting apartments into hotel apartments.
2003
Hotel Nordbo is being expanded with six new hotel apartments.
2008
Further expansion with six hotel apartments as well as administration and technical facilities.
2012
Centerbo and Nordbo Apartments in Nuuk city center are being taken over and renovated.
2016–2017
All hotel apartments are being modernized with new windows, fixtures and updated amenities.
2018
Nordbo i Centrum is established as a comprehensive concept.
2023
New hotel apartments, reception, breakfast restaurant and meeting facilities open at Vandsøvej.
2025
Nordbo in the city center becomes Hotel Nordbo City. Renovation with new reception and restaurant/meeting room.
2026
Restaurant Aaveq opens as a new gastronomic project in Nuuk.
